Heritage Fire Consultancy Limited was set up by Steve Emery in 2022, following his retirement from Oxford University. His interest in heritage buildings began during his service as an operational firefighter and fire officer for the City of Bath, a world heritage site designated for its outstanding 18th century architecture. Steve quickly became an expert in his field and joined English Heritage in 2001 as their National Fire Adviser, and in 2016 Oxford University in a similar role.

Steve has influenced fire policy and best practice at a national and international level and led research and testing, making a positive difference to the strategies used to protect historic buildings. He’s worked on some of England’s most important buildings, including The Palace of Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedral.

A companion member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, Steve chairs their special interest group for heritage buildings.
